Additional reflection questions are below:

  • What number did the person you spoke with give themselves when you opened the conversation with the scaling question?
  • Were you surprised by their self-assessment? Why or Why not?
  • As a mentor, is your opinion of the person’s self assessment relevant? Why or Why not?
  • When you asked the “bump up” question (i.e. how they might make the next day / time better) what insights did the people with whom you were speaking have about their own next steps?
  • As the conversation progressed which stance did you find yourself spending the most time in? Why do you think that was?
  • What cues were you taking from the person you were speaking with that informed how the conversation progressed beyond the initial scaling question?
  • What did you learn from the conversation?
