ELKP - Pedagogical Documentation

Hello. We are a team of eight kindergarten educators that have been on a four year learning journey in regards to FDK and implementing an inquiry and play based curriculum.
Through this project we are excited to continue this journey by researching pedagogical documentation and developing a common understanding.

Being a part of his project has been amazing! Collaborating with my peers, working closely to figure out a common goal, being reflective and increasing our understanding of pedagogical documentation has changed my practices and helped me to find effective ways to show and share the wonderful world in Kindergarten. The book we are studying is a great source of information on how to organize, hightlight and document student learning. All of my learning has made me more congnicent of what the students are learning and how to display and document it effectively.
I started this journey by looking at my day to eliminate some transitions, streamline routine's so that the day ran more efficiently and devote more time to inquiry (student learning). Then I moved to documenting by looking at who the audience is and adding that "Missing Middle". The missing middle being reflecting on the learning to drive and inform practise. Now, the concentration is on adding student voice, teacher voice and including students questions and theories. We are currently taking time to focus on Design and Photography. We visited each others rooms and shared our forms of documentation and took time to support and encourage eachother. This is a big step for me and something I continue to work on.... My goal now is to spend some time reflecting on how I am sharing the learning with my colleagues, with the parents and the community. Reflect, Revisit, Rethink!

It has been an important reflective piece to be able to go into each others rooms and view the documentation that is up. We have the opportunity to question each other.

This projects has been a journey of growth. From where we started to where we are now I can really tell the growth. I have learned through reading so far in "Pedagogical Documentation in Early Childhood" the importance of documentation. I am setting goals such as looking closer at how I take pictures and which ones I use for documenting. I find I am trying to be more reflective and figure out what it is the children are inquiring about. The big question I have to remember is to ask Why.

We are loving One Note!!!!! At the beginning of the project we brainstormed ways in which we could document our learning throughout the project. We decided to use the app One Note to help with this process. Within the app we were able to create a notebook that includes areas, such as: project goals, norms and protocols, meeting agendas, meeting minutes and links such as this one. We could also create individual areas for each team member to track their personal goals and learning. we are able to also include evidence of learning and growth by inserting pictures in our reflections. We have found this app amazing as it allows us to both share information with each other and organize all of our information in one place.

At the start of our project we decided that we would develop a mission statement that would communicate to others what we value as a team in our programs. We also thought that we would the mission statement as an anchor to ensure that whatever we are learning, practicing or implementing always supports our vision.

Our Mission Statement:
To provide a safe, calm, nurturing and engaging learning environment, supportive of all stakeholders; for each are unique and valued. To foster a sense of curiosity through  inquiry and play based learning rich in opportunities.  To cultivate relationships with  children, families and educators through a respectful and inclusive program.
