Last week we took a day to explore our new math manipulatives. We were lucky to have the day to explore, sort and organize the manipulatives we purchased into their strands. We are very motivated to start using them and our students are thrilled to explore and learn with them. They have been very responsive to our new approach.

Math Journals

We have started our inquiry based numeracy with math journals! Each student has been given a spiral lined paper book in our three classrooms (gr.2, gr.3 and gr.7/8). The goal we have in mind with the journals is to record their learning and questions they will have as they explore new math concepts.

Erin,  I read your discussion post the other day and then today I was looking for examples of Freyer Diagrams and found some for math.  And I thought of you!  Maybe you have throught of Freyer diagrams as a way of keeping a math journal but I thought I would give you the link:
